It's finally happening... the long awaited Metro Tunnel is finally here! In this video, we will be exploring all 5 stations in the Melbourne's recently opened Metro Tunnel with commentary and information about the stations. Stations we will explore will include Arden, Parkville, State Library-Melbourne Central, Town Hall-Flinders Street, and finally Anzac. The Metro Tunnel connects Pakenham, Cranbourne and Sunbury services and today marks the opening of the Metro Tunnel. However, as of the opening day, trains on the Pakenham, Cranbourne, and Sunbury Lines will still continue to run on the City Loop as per normal, marking the 'Summer Start' transitional period between the existing timetable and the new change era until 31 January 2026, where on 1 February 2026, the new timetable is introduced and trains will run exclusively via the Metro Tunnel, a date also known as the 'Big Switch'. This video will not only include trains but also station tours. This video will also include a Bonus ride via Melbourne Central to Flinders Street Station on the Cranbourne Line, showing how the 'Summer Start' period showcases the network on the Pakenham, Cranbourne and Sunbury Lines.
