This trail run meant more than just getting in miles. To celebrate one year since Dale became part of the family, we went back to our favorite trail in San Diego for an 8-mile hybrid fitness run, checking in at each mile and taking time to reflect along the way. We’re running near the edge of Mount Laguna, with views that drop down into the desert valley toward El Centro — a place that always reminds me why trail running is about more than cardio. Throughout the run, I talk about consistency, fitness, mindset, and the benefits you get from escaping into the woods that lifting weights or road miles alone can’t provide.
