In this episode of Hey Y'all, Ivy Odom visits her favorite brewery in Birmingham to search for the perfect beer to compliment her Beer Can Chicken and Raspberry Beer Cocktail. She tastes different beers on tap at Avondale Brewery with the help of their friendly bartenders. Ivy choses the farmhouse cider for the chicken because the apple flavors go well with the chicken marinade. For the raspberry beer cocktail, she takes home the Mexican lager which adds a nice neutral flavor to the tangy cocktail. At home, Ivy prepares the chicken’s marinade and includes Avondale’s farmhouse cider beer, sweet Vidalia onions, a few spices, and some backyard honey. She opts for drumsticks because they’re easier to eat, rather than the traditional whole chicken. The chicken marinates in the fridge for several hours. In the meantime, she concocts the raspberry beer cocktail with Avondale’s Mexican Lager, Tito’s Vodka, fresh raspberries, raspberry-lemon concentrate, and lemons/limes. The coral-colored cocktail is perfect to drink while the chicken cooks on her homemade grill, which was built by her dad from an old beer keg. Ivy’s friends come over to enjoy the cocktail and chicken, served with beer battered onion rings. An easy southern dish for a great backyard gathering!
