720bhp, 800Nm of torque, rear-wheel-drive, 0 to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds, a top speed of 325km/h, and aerodynamics adapted directly from the current AMG GT3 racing car – say hello to the new 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, the most powerful Mercedes-AMG with a V8 series engine. The erstwhile 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 has been given extensive upgrades, ranging from a new 'flat-plane' crankshaft with a 180-degree angle offset to new camshafts and exhaust manifolds. The latter two have been tuned according to the new firing order (1-8-2-7 4-5-3-6) to further optimise the gas cycle, and the twin-scroll turbochargers have been fitted with larger compressor wheels for higher boost levels. The AMG Speedshift DCT 7G transmission has also been reinforced to handle the extra torque and a new twin-pipe exhaust system has been employed, made of thin-walled steel. The result of all this is more evenly distributed combustion in all chambers, more agile throttle response, and a bump in power and torque – up from 577bhp and 700Nm (AMG GT R) to 720bhp and 800Nm. While 0 – 100km/h is achieved in a matter of 3.2 seconds, the AMG GT Black Series can dismiss the 0 – 200km/h mark in under 9 seconds. Being a Black Series model, the car uses carbon-fibre or carbon-fibre-reinforced body panels extensively and, of course, the aerodynamics have been adapted from the marque's GT racing programme, The car costs £335,000
