Plumbing Smoke Test Using Halloween-type Fog Machine

This is our DIY smoke test for the drain-waste-vent side of our house plumbing. The "smoke" comes from a Halloween-type fog machine, using water-based, non-toxic fog juice. With the pipes filled with fog, we used flashlights to inspect under sinks, around toilets, the shower drains, the roof vents and everywhere that water would drain or vent. Our house plumbing was sealed tight, except for one toilet that smoked at the base. That toilet did not have any water leaks, but the wax ring was clearly not sealed so at some point a leak would have happened. Knowing we had a problem, we pulled the toilet, replaced with new wax, and tested again. Once the seal was perfect, we caulked and considered the job well done.
