In October 2023, Ian suffered a cardiac arrest at home in Stowmarket. His brave wife, Wendy, performed 18 minutes of effective CPR until emergency services arrived. Among the responders was the Anglia One crew from East Anglian Air Ambulance, Doctor Toby and CCP Luke, who provided advanced care to Ian at the scene. This included using a Lucas machine which gave Ian good quality, consistent chest compressions, a sedation to put Ian into a medically induced coma, and advanced surgical skills including a thoracostomy on both sides of Ian’s chest to relieve the build-up of air between the lung and the chest wall. Ian was in critical condition, and the EAAA crew advised Wendy to contact family due to the severity of his situation. He was airlifted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where he received specialist care. To everyone’s amazement, Ian woke up the following morning and was taken off the ventilator. He later learned that he had one blocked artery and two compromised arteries, which had caused a heart attack and led to his cardiac arrest. Four weeks later, he underwent triple bypass surgery at Papworth Hospital. Your donation could save lives like Ian's. Donate today: eaaa.org.uk/donate Together we save lives.
