People walking up to memorial to pay tribute STORYLINE: Several hundred fans of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) football team led a tense but peaceful march on Sunday in memory of a fan who was shot dead by a police officer caught up in a violent rampage by PSG supporters. Marchers gathered at Parc des Princes stadium and proceeded in silence to the spot where 25-year-old Julien Quemener was killed on November 23. Demonstrators marched behind a black banner reading "May justice prevail." At the site of the shooting, they kneeled down, and some left wreaths. The incident exposed the long-ignored problem of racism, violence and hooliganism among PSG fans. Police have said Quemener was a member of a group known as the Boulogne Boys, some of whom have links to PSG's tight-knit and violent far-right fan base. However the President of the Boulogne Boys group told journalists that the march was a tribute to Quemener, whose honour he said had been "sullied by the press, the authorities and various politicians." The police officer who killed Quemener and wounded another fan was black, and he was protecting a Jewish fan while they were under attack from supporters shouting racist and anti-Semitic epithets following a match between Paris Saint-Germain and Hapoel Tel Aviv. Because of fears of renewed hooliganism, Sunday's French league soccer match between Paris Saint-Germain and Toulouse was postponed.
