Jazz Singing - How to Phrase the Melody

In this video I'll be showing you how you can alter the phrasing, sing behind the beat or ahead of the beat to give your melody more of a unique presence when singing Jazz. The song I'll be using to demonstrate is called 'Beautiful Love', which is a gorgeous standard and requires a meaningful connection to the words and plenty of feel! The best way to practice if you don't have an accompanist or a musician handy is to use a backing track. Acquiring something suitable can sometimes be problematic, but I will try and post something in the next week that you can download to sing along to if you are struggling to find something suitable. You can download a Jazz lead sheet for free on Musescore.com or if you have a subscription to Scrib'd then the lead sheet is on there too.
