XVM are web-based instruments conceived initially as an exploration of expanding the potential of the human voice by turning it into data, and gradually expanded into a series of open-source free-to-use digital tools, ranging from sample sequencers to tools that utilize the human body and voice. Improvisation is the core of the instruments, as the goal is to streamline and simplify the digital music creation process while offering diverse methods and approaches that break away from conventional digital instrument logic. By prioritizing improvisation over composition, these machines allow for the emergence of unexpected patterns and forms.
