We recorded this 4k ultra hd video during our trip to Stockholm, Sweden on Auguust 2024. Welcome to Stockholm, the magnificent capital of Sweden, a city gracefully spread across 14 islands connected by over 50 bridges. Often called the "Venice of the North," Stockholm is renowned for its stunning waterfront setting, the incredibly well-preserved medieval old town (Gamla Stan), and its world-class museums and design scene. With a population of around one million in the city proper, Stockholm is the cultural, media, political, and economic center of Sweden. Sweden is a member of the European Union, but it does not use the Euro. The currency is the Swedish Krona (SEK). The official language is Swedish, with English being spoken fluently by a vast majority of the population. The city was founded around 1252, traditionally by the statesman Birger Jarl. It flourished as a trade hub within the Hanseatic League and became the capital of the powerful Swedish Empire in the 17th century. Stockholm is a very safe, clean, and innovative city. Note that Sweden is a largely cashless society, so credit/debit cards and digital payments are the preferred methods of payment almost everywhere. The public transport system (SL) is excellent, covering the metro (Tunnelbana), buses, trams, and ferries. A travel card is the most convenient way to get around. Don't leave without experiencing "fika," the beloved Swedish tradition of taking a break for coffee and a pastry. Be sure to try classic Swedish meatballs or a delicious cinnamon bun (kanelbulle).
