The Stella Cinema Mount Merrion opened in 1955 as a sister cinema to the Stella in Rathmines. The original capacity was 1000 seats. The cinema closed in 1976 and subsequently opened as Flanagan's of Mount Merrion (a landmark furniture store). Flanagan's occupied the building until they closed circa 2011. The building lay empty until Flanagan's moved back in circa 2016.
