Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome to another POV review. This time around, it's the new Suzuki Across, a car that may look rather familiar. That's because it's been made in conjunction with fellow Japanese car giant Toyota. The Across is a big deal for the Suzuki as it's the brand's first ever plug-in hybrid. It's powered by a 2.5 litre naturally aspirated engine as well as not one, but two electric motors. The combined power output is generous to say the least, as there is 306hp on tap. That means this large, practical family car will hit 62mph in just 6.0 seconds. However, don't think that Suzuki has forgotten the main point of a hybrid car. Suzuki claims a simply staggering 282mpg on a combined run, with CO2 emissions as low as 22g/km - lower than its rivals. Better still, the Across can be driven on EV only for a range of up to 46 miles, which is another area that betters its rivals. The BIK rating is 6% whereas the majority of the Across' competitors are around 10%. So, it will be cheap to run, but to buy? Erm, not so. There is just one trim level available for the Across, but it will cost you a pretty penny. That's because it will set you back £45,599 although for what it's worth, you do get a decent amount of kit, even though Sat Nav is not even an option. What you do get as standard are 19” alloys, LED headlights, keyless entry, heated fronts, 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, 9” touchscreen, DAB radio, Bluetooth, and smartphone connectivity. There’s more, though… There’s also front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, dual zone climate control, power tailgate, and privacy glass. Safety kit? There’s plenty of that too, including six airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, speed limiter, and vehicle sway warning function. It should come as little surprise, then, that the Suzuki Across was awarded 5 stars by Euro NCAP.
