🔎 Transition Strategies – Piani d’Erna 🇮🇹 What happens after skiing ends? Rethinking tourism in the mountains. In the pre-Alps of Lombardy, Piani d’Erna has already faced what many Alpine areas are beginning to experience: the end of skiing. With snow becoming too unreliable, ski lifts were decommissioned - forcing the community to confront a difficult but necessary transition. Through the BeyondSnow project, and in partnership with @Legambiente Lombardia, local actors came together to imagine a new, sustainable future. Their strategy includes: Shifting to outdoor tourism, with hiking, climbing and via ferratas Upgrading infrastructure and visitor services, including trail networks and signage Linking tourism with the local economy, from farms to small businesses Promoting sustainable mobility, improving access by public transport Piani d’Erna shows that ending snow-based tourism isn’t a failure - it can be the beginning of a more resilient, diversified Alpine destination. #BeyondSnow #PianiDErna #SustainableTourism #ClimateAdaptation #AlpineTransition #ResilientAlps #TransitionStrategies
