During the making of this video, I was using free SATCOM to make contacts from the High Arctic in Canada to the rest of North America and Western Europe. SATCOM? Well...kind of! The signals I was transmitting were transmitted via cellular data to an Arctic telecom provider. From here they left the community via satellite. Cambridge Bay receives all its internet traffic by satellite backhaul. So my Network Radio contacts were happening via SATCOM. Cool! In this video you will see how I used the Zello platform to make a 1150 mile contact from the Arctic to another area of Northern Canada. I was using a Radio-tone RT4, and my contact was using an Inrico S200. I explain how Network Radios work, talk about the Zello platform, show some hardware examples, and end with a couple of QSOs to North America and Europe - from a handheld radio in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, Canada. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A LICENSED HAM RADIO OPERATOR to own and use Network Radio equipment (unless you want to access Zello to repeater crosslinks). You can find out more about the Network Radios channel suite at their official website : https://networkradios.weebly.com/ At the end of the video, I am using Network Radio CH00. Many Network Radio users choose the excellent, and free, Zello platform. Visit Zello.com for more information. As always, thanks for watching the Frugal Radio (FR) channel!
