En Saharonim, Avdat, Shivta, Chahutza - illustrious names on the northern incense route. Caravanserais, villages, cities. And in between the desert: craters, mountains, stones, sand, water bodies. Today this part belongs to the Negev, the desert in Israel. The empire of the Nabataeans used to be located there, rulers of the trade routes through which the valuable commodity frankincense was brought from southern Arabia to the metropolises of Europe. The capital of the Nabataean Empire was the legendary Petra. From there we went to En Saharonim, a small oasis, to Avdat, a magnificent city on the mountain, to Shivta, the agricultural metropolis and to Chalutza, where today there are only a few piles of stones in the sand, a few ruins and walls.
