Dr. Kwane has never had to perform an emergency c-section on a patient he has come across doing street vet work…so this is a first in almost 10 years! While traveling the streets in Studio City CA, the PSV team happened to come upon this little Chihuahua named “Lovely” 🐶 and found that she was struggling in labor. Although this story didn’t have the happiest of endings because the puppies didn’t make it, the silver lining is that Lovely survived. Without surgery, there was definitely a chance she wouldn't have survived. Sadly, Dr. Kwane has experienced newborn puppy mortalities in the hospital and surprisingly the rates are higher than many may think, nearly 10%. The pet parents were good people who tried to get Lovely vet care but didn't have enough funds to do so. These surgeries can cost upwards of $2,000, which not everyone can afford. And as some of you have probably experienced, getting immediate veterinary care these days is not easy. Unexpected pet pregnancies are just one reason we like to remind all pet parents of the importance of spaying and neutering - pets live longer, have fewer health and behavioral problems, it prevents unwanted litters, and assists with the nationwide issue of pet overpopulation. Thanks to our supporters, we were able to get Lovely spayed and she was returned to her parents happy and healthy. They were so moved by the unexpected help, and our team is grateful to have been able to assist where it was most needed, without judgement, which is what it's all about. 🙏🏽 As always a big thank you to Beverly Oaks Animal Hospital and their staff!
