Disappearing Moroccan Souk: Aourir Souk is Gone Forever!

Aourir is outside of Agadir and it was home to our traditional Moroccan Souk. Sadly in our days of travel from Morocco, the Aourir Souk has been relocated to allow for more Moroccan tourism with beach side residences along the Agadir beach and Taghazout bay. The new traditional Moroccan Souk is in Assersif. We had heard people upset about this decision so we had our doubts. When we drove through banana village we found little traffic. When we arrived it had all the cozy vibes smells and sounds of the Aourir Souk. Less busy, or it could have been the hour of day we were there. The Moroccan winter sun beat down on us as we shopped for bananas, mangos, sweet potatoes, carrots, onions, zucchini, kaki, avocados, tomoatoes and olive oil. We found the prices to be increased in all items except for tomatoes. This is to be expected after a year and a half absence along with Russia making problems in the Ukraine!
