DSIG Workshop: Introduction to Arabic OCR

Panel 8 recorded on November 30th 2022 at the University of Denver Digital Scholarship Interest Group Workshop: Introduction to Arabic OCR / Jonathan Parkes Allen and moderated by Dale Correa The Digital Scholarship Interest Group invites MELA members to attend a training on how to apply OCR/HTR (optical character recognition/handwritten text recognition) to digitized images of Arabic script texts. One of two pieces of software will be taught: either eScriptorium (first choice) or Tesseract. We are waiting to hear from eScriptorium’s developers on their availability to train, and the current state of their product. The workshop will introduce attendees to the basics of the software, and how to get started with a digitized image. The discussion will also include helpful tips for digitization and image processing, as well as management of training models and OCR data. #MELALibs2022
