Read George’s full review of the 2020 Kia Soul on CarGurus: https://cargur.us/tshFW Kia redesigned the Soul for the 2020 model year, but you’ll still recognize it as the boxy eye-catcher made famous by all those hamster commercials. Things look more futuristic now than ever, and a couple of new design-focused trims bring adventurous and sporty vibes to the unique hatchback-meets-crossover. The base engine in the Soul delivers 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque via four naturally aspirated cylinders. For shoppers looking for a little more boost, the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, available in the GT-Line Turbo trim, puts out 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Power is managed through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in all but the base trim, which offers a 6-speed manual as standard equipment (and the CVT as an option). Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both come standard on the 7-inch touchscreen’s UVO infotainment system. If you’d like a more eye-catching display, consider the 10.25-inch screen that comes in the EX and GT-Line trims. Safety features aren’t universally standard, although a reversing camera is. If you want advanced driver-assistance features like forward-collision warning and avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-path detection, you’ll need to move to at least the S trim. Luckily, pricing for the Soul is extremely competitive. The base MSRP sits at $17,490 and rises to $22,690 on the EX trim. However, things make a jump once you add the turbo engine: the GT-Line Turbo starts at $27,490. All in all, this is an attractive price tag for a car that combines small-SUV cargo space with a car’s ride and handling.
