Machu Picchu Peru features in this latest video from our Grand Tour of South America. This week we travel from the Sacred valley to one of the seven wonders of the world in Peru, Machu Picchu. We travel by train to the town of Aguas Calientes more commonly known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. Our journey to one of the wonders of the world is quite possibly the most awe inspiring experience of our lives. Hiram Bingham III was a lecturer at Yale University, although not a trained archaeologist, his enthusiasm and hunger for knowledge about this area helped him gain the trust and expertise from locals. He discovered and saw for the first time the ruins of Machu Picchu on the 24th July 1911. Initailly the site was covered in vegetation escept for terraces which were still being used by the local Quecha people. Binghams excitement to discover more led his further expeditions to be sponsored by Yale University and National Geographic The rest as they say, is history!
