Schools reopen in Kashmir after week-long closure amid protests over Khamenei’s death

Schools across Kashmir reopened on Monday after remaining closed for a week following protests over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel air strike. While secondary schools and higher educational institutions had reopened on February 23 after winter vacations, middle and primary schools were scheduled to reopen on March 2. However, the reopening was delayed due to the protests across the Valley. Students expressed excitement about returning to school, meeting their friends and teachers, and starting the new academic session after the extended break. The Kashmir Valley, home to around 15 lakh Shia residents, witnessed widespread protests after the news of Khamenei’s killing emerged.
