Behind-the-Scenes: Orchestrating the Score for the Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure Park Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino, who also scored the music for Disney•Pixar’s “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2” films, has come on board to compose the music for the thrilling Incredicoaster, which is set to debut when Pixar Pier opens at Disney California Adventure park on June 23, 2018. Michael has taken his musical themes from the films and adapted them into this high-speed coaster experience. We joined Michael during a recording session with an accompanying orchestra. Most of the musicians were also part of creating the score for the “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2.” Anchoring the newly reimagined land of Pixar Pier, the Incredicoaster will zoom you along with the Parr family to capture the elusive baby Jack-Jack. The new music adds to the thrill and excitement of this super adventure! Michael is no stranger to Disney Parks. He has collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering to create music for attractions such as Space Mountain at Disneyland park, Ratatouille: The Adventure at Disneyland Paris, as well as parts of Star Tours – The Adventures Continue (with legendary composer John Williams) at Disney Parks around the world. Keep your ears open before you board the attraction — Michael also wrote original music inspired by “The Incredibles” in the queue area. ABOUT Michael Giacchino (born October 10, 1967) is an American composer of music for films, television and video games. He has received an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and three Grammy Awards. He is known for his collaborations with J. J. Abrams, Brad Bird, Matt Reeves, Pete Docter, Colin Trevorrow, Jon Watts, Drew Goddard and The Wachowskis. His film scores include several films from the Mission: Impossible, Jurassic Park and Star Trek series, numerous Pixar Animation Studios films, Super 8, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Zootopia, Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. He also composed the score of the video game series Medal of Honor and Call of Duty and the television series Alias, Lost and Fringe. Incredicoaster is a steel roller coaster located at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, California. Manufactured by Intamin, the ride opened to the public as California Screamin' on February 8, 2001. It is the only roller coaster at the Disneyland Resort with an inversion, and it is the fastest at the park with a top speed of 55 miles per hour (89 km/h). At 6,072 feet long, Incredicoaster is the longest inverting roller coaster in the world, as of 2020. California Screamin' closed in early 2018 and reopened as Incredicoaster, inspired by the 2004 computer-animated film The Incredibles and its 2018 sequel Incredibles 2, on June 23, 2018. Its opening coincided with the debut of the newly-revamped Pixar Pier section of the park, where the roller coaster is located. The tubes the coaster shoots through serve two purposes: concealing scenes with The Incredibles characters, and meeting the sound restrictions of Orange County, California. In one tube, an overwhelming smell of chocolate chip cookies references Jack-Jack's obsession with chocolate chip cookies in Incredibles 2. Additionally, the tubes open up toward Pixar Pier allowing people in the park to see riders moving through the coaster. However, the backside of these tubes are closed in order to meet sound code in Orange County, California, projecting the screams of the riders toward the park and away from the rest of the city of Anaheim and neighboring Garden Grove. ©2018 Disney Enterprises Inc.
