Here's the full, uncut original score of Coal & Quarrels. Sorry it took so long.^^ I had a lot of fun creating this OST. Having the free range to create music for a story the way you vision isn't a piece of cake, but super satisfying in the end. If you know my music work, I'm mostly known for my S1-2 synthy styled music. I was honestly pondering of using this style for my series, but decided for a different approach. This series is heavily inspired by Thomas & the Magic Railroad, especially the voice cast & story telling. Since I wanted to have that TATMR/cinematic feel, I've decided to practice & use orchestral music. As much as I absolutely adore the synthy music, it just simply doesn't have that big of a range to feel as cinematic as orchestral would. But that doesn't mean the synths are completely out of the picture. :) To quote from my "Rosie's First Run" description on SC: "I love the cinematic music in TATMR and orchestral in general and would like to adapt that TATMR music style for my series, but not in it's entirety. I made the decision to make a unique style for my series: A sorta hybrid of the classic synths and percussion and TATMR orchestral instruments. It would be mostly orchestrated with some parts using the classic percussions and synths if it needs to be catchy." I took full advantage of the iconic motifs as well as sneaking in other melodies from the franchise. There's Classic, HiT, Nitrogen, Brenner & even AEG. There's a bit of everything for everyone. This was also my first attempt of using leitmotifs: motifs written & tied into the story, like telling a story through music. Each leitmotif presents something or someone in a story. Some examples, aside from the more well known engine motifs, being "Thomas & Percy" whenever their friendship was being involved or mentioned, "Little Engines"/"Really Useful Engines" for their determination & usefulness & "It's Great to Be an Engine" for the Crew members. How many music pieces can you recognize in this OST? Which pieces are your favorite? Lemme know in the comments! Overall, I've really outdone myself & had a blast with this one! All those years of music theory & knowledge & also studying & being creative with Thomas' music really pulled off in the end. I would've never though my music would evolve into this grandiose piece. I couldn't be more happy with this OST and will definitely keep it up for the series onwards. Hope you Enjoy & Have a Good One!
