Former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement John Sandweg describes the culture of intolerance surrounding immigration law. In this We Are Witnesses film, Sandweg breaks down governmental policies, his own feelings on immigration enforcement, and the impact that ICE has had on thousands of lives. “People are looking for simple answers to why they don't feel secure,” Sandweg explained to The Marshall Project. “And I think politicians give them answers looking for people to blame.” He details the experiences he’s had with people who are outspoken supporters of immigration enforcement who suddenly find loved ones facing deportation: “You'll get these hawks calling us, and saying, ‘Hey, well, deport them all, but not that guy.
