After 36 Hours We conquered Ijen Volcano Indonesia East Java

After an unforgettable sunrise at Mount Bromo, we embarked on a multi-leg adventure to Banyuwangi, the gateway to Ijen Volcano. Ijen is famous not only for its electric-blue flames—a rare phenomenon caused by ignited sulfuric gases—but also for its centuries-old sulfur mining industry. Miners trek deep into the crater daily, enduring toxic fumes and carrying 70-90 kg (150-200 lbs) of solid sulfur on their backs up the steep slopes, as seen here in our video. Despite the harsh conditions, mining has been a livelihood here for generations, with the sulfur used in various industries worldwide. Our journey to Banyuwawngi included a $10.33 USD bus ride from Bromo to Probolinggo, a $14.70 USD scenic train ride to Banyuwangi, and an incredibly cheap cab ride for less than $1 USD to our hotel.
