Into The Volume – A Deep Dive into Virtual Production

In this episode we take a deep dive into Virtual Production. If you are a filmmaker you are surely aware of Virtual Production. It requires very specific skills and expertise … Besides giving you general insights into the technology our goal is to give you a deeper understanding that will help you to plan and execute your virtual production. Besides valuable tips and tricks for DoPs we will also give advice for producers, directors, environment artists, art departments and everybody involved in a virtual production. To show you some of the great possibilities of a virtual environment, Ten Dots and the Media Division set up a mini project: Our short film “The King Of Cydonia” will take you in the mountains of Mars and leave you breathless… literally. This project was executed in just two days from planning, setting up the virtual environment, to getting all the shots. Something impossible to do on location… even if you stay on Earth. We will explain the benefits of Virtual Productions by taking you through the process off planing and executing some of the scenes. We will also give you insights from a real life production for Tencent where Franky and Alex enter the gaming Worlds of Dune: Awakening, and Dying Light: The Beast… we really had fun with layering the volume with a great stage, fire, heat waves, wind and smoke. Last but not least we made a little bonus project that shows the lesser known ability.
