Fresh from excursions on Gruuv and New Violence, Glaswegian Dalfie returns to Catz ‘N Dogz Pets with three more marching orders. Please stand to attention: ‘Outlaw’ sets the tone with a slinky synth bass groove, a shadow-creeping ambience and a neat sense of momentum that takes you unaware with subtle twists and diversions en route. An ideal opener or transition piece, ‘Outlaw’ whips up an atmosphere like no other. ‘For It’ adds acidic petrol to the deep, dark fire. Slow-burning with a hip-slinking percussion-tinted groove, it gradually gets darker and darker as we creep further into Dalfie’s 303s. By the time we’re submersed in the breakdown our veins are nothing by circuits and frequencies run through them like blood. For our final leg of the journey Dalfie leaves us in a brighter mindset with ‘Right Up’. Taking cues from both mid 90s Chicago and late 90s Paris, there’s an unquenchable funk woven deep into the filtered samples, pushing beats, carnivalian percussion and the lolloping bassline. Twisted in places, fluctuating in others, seriously vibrant throughout, this is a precision intersection of house, techno and disco all rolled into one seriously vibed-out party piece.
