The newer Specialized Crux gravel bikes have a known issue of headset creaking / popping. Headset micro shims may help, but not in my case. A new upper headset assembly is what was required for me. Used in this video: Cane Creek 40 Headset - IS42/28.6, IS52/40 (just the upper HS components) https://amzn.to/4i9VdHn Specialized Crux full review: • Specialized Crux // Great But NOT PERFECT NOTES: 1) As of 4/13/25, I've put on about 65 miles of mildly chunky gravel and the creaking has not returned. There is zero play in the headset. Still very smooth. 2) Someone mentioned in the comments you should never use a metal compression ring on a carbon fork steerer. I didn't agree with this, so I spoke to a tech at Cane Creek over the phone who confirmed that there is no issue running a metal compression ring on a carbon fork steerer. Stems, crown races, and expander plugs are all metal as well and contact the carbon directly with no issue. Support the channel! https://www.thebikesauce.com/
