SOUNDBITE (English) Tom Donaldson, Senior Vice President & Head of Creative Play Lab at the LEGO Group: "We see it as a new dimension to the iconic brick, so we see it as extending, we think that kids have a lot of different needs and a lot of different desires. And some of it is about the level of socialization. Kids love to play together. Some of it is like kids are getting more and more used to things changing. You go to school, you come back, and something's different. And kids really like to have agency where they can do stuff and stuff happens. And we think this is an additional layer. It's not a replacement layer in any way, but an additional layer of sheer fun for loads of kids and we're excited to bring it to them." 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Tom Donaldson, Senior Vice President & Head of Creative Play Lab at the LEGO Group: "There's a lot in there, a lot of sensors. So, there's an entirely new custom sensing solution where the bricks know where they are in relation to each other. That's something we've developed entirely new because it doesn't have beacons and that's different. There's wireless charging technology that is also new. There's motion sensing, there's gesture sensing, there's sound sensing, ambient light sensing, color sensing, and then there's brick-to-brick communication, and then obviously we've got speakers and lights so that we can put something back out in the world. So, a ton of sensing, relatively small about a computation, but we're doing some cool things there as well. And then synthesize this to generate some super cool audio and light animations." 9. SOUNDBITE (English) Tom Donaldson, Senior Vice President & Head of Creative Play Lab at the LEGO Group: "What we really hope is that this brick is something they take to their brick bin and they start building freely and imagining and I would love it if they take, you know, it's very easy to make a vehicle say and yeah, if they went back to some of the sets they've had for a few years and make them come alive, I think we'd all see that as super happy. We do believe in this principle that you know that things work with stuff that's a little bit older and that there's a whole kid's childhood kind of approach and we've thought that in right from the start in our technical designs." 11. SOUNDBITE (English) Tom Donaldson, Senior Vice President & Head of Creative Play Lab at the LEGO Group: "We've always embraced digital, if you look at our, you know, what a lot of the stuff we do in digital, we've done some incredible things there recently as well. We do understand that our job is to make kids happy, and so it is important to understand, you know, what kids' needs are, what they love, what the find incredibly desirable. I think we see this more as an incredible opportunity than something we're doing because we're forced to." 18.
