On Sunday 8th November 2025, CLF3 "Jason Ferguson" lead SSR's Train 1841 empty grain from Enfield to loading points at Nevertire and Trangie, in the company of (then) newly-acquired MRL002 and fan favourite 8049. This was CLF3's first appearance on the Great Western since receiving its name (after SSR's owner) and its distinctive new colours; this AN throwback is a livery I really like and made every effort to capture on GM27 when it came west wearing it. As such, the chase was on, netting me six sightings of the colourful consist in various lights. A couple of other trains captured towards the end appear too, which may explain the extended gap between the last two sightings, as well as a cameo of 621/721 a couple of days prior. Nevertheless, CLF3's first appearance on the Great Western in this AN-inspired throwback livery (CLF3 would have worn the green and gold original when it was younger) and with its new name was something worthy of chasing, especially given its colourful company. The chase turned out to be a fun one. The light was fantastic and I could use some of my favourite spots with this colourful train. The XPT's late-running meant I could work in a shot of that too, plus 8966's appearance at Spring Hill was nice, even if the two of them did mean 1841 didn't escape Polona Loop until golden hour had almost faded to blue. The shot of 621/721 which opens the film is, I confess, a bit of a craneshunt. I thought I'd filmed this on the same day, but when I realised my notes were a bit out, it was too late to change it. That said, an appearance of the veteran rail motor is always welcome so it could stay, even if it outranks everything else in this film in terms of age. All in all, another entry to Great Western Chronicles that I very much enjoyed making and am even happier to share with you. Enjoy!
