Scoliodon, the 'Dog fish' or 'Common Indian Shark', is a marine cartilaginous fish. Its respiratory organs are 5 pairs of gills, which are present in the gill pouches on the either side of its pharyngeal region. Each gill pouch opens into the pharynx through internal branchial aperture and to the outside through external branchial aperture or gill slit. The gills are lamelliform type. Gills are highly vascular structures, which receive blood through afferent branchial artery and the oxygenated blood is collected by efferent branchial artery. Oxygenated blood is transported to the tissues and Carbon dioxide is collected and sent to out side via gills along with out flowing water.
