Also what challenges do the Medical students face? Medical school can be challenging for any student, with high demands on time, the pressures of managing all the information and the need to constantly juggle multiple responsibilities. The pre-clinical (first and second) years are spent in the classroom setting. Reading textbooks and sitting through lectures comprise the bulk of your workload. The clinical (third and fourth) years are spent in the hospital or clinic, where long amounts of time are spent with patients and the skills you learned in the classroom are put to the test. Although “surviving medical school” may seem like an ominous task, there are numerous resources available to guide you toward your end goal – getting into a residency, ultimately, starting practice. Prevent Burnout in a Medical School : Intrinsic motivation is more lasting and brings about better results as compared to extrinsic motivation. Find out what excites you and what makes you happy about getting up in the morning. Then find ways to be involved in those things. Seek out mentorship. Find someone who can help you when times are tough or when you need to talk through a case and to keep you on track when things are going well. Sleep well. Eat well. Work out. Laugh. Love. Don’t forget to take care of your body and to fill yourself up with friends and family. Schedule these in. Make them a priority.
