The free stroke (free-stroke, or in Spanish, tirando) is a commonly used right hand classical guitar technique. It is demonstrated by Lakeland based classical guitarist, Robert Phillips. This technique is used in flamenco guitar playing as well. It is used by all of the great masters of the guitar, notably by Andres Segovia. Robert plays a Lo Prinzi guitar and uses La Bella guitar strings.He recorded this using a Audio Technica AT3035 condenser mics through a Mackie mixer. The high definition video camera is Zoom Q3HD and edited using AVS video editor software. Robert holds a B.S. in Music Education from Hofstra University, an M.A. in music from Brooklyn College, and a D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) from the University of Miami. He is a former student of Rey de la Torre, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, David Starobin, Dennis Koster, Michael Cedric Smith, Rene Gonzalez, and Stanley Solo. He as also performed in master classes by Oscar Ghiglia, Eduardo Fernandez, and Sergio Assad. He has performed in a variety of venues throughout the world, including Weill Recital Hall at Weill Recital Hall, and Lincoln Center.
