I got the Bull Tank simply by purchasing the vehicle from the Miles Shop using the in-game currency, and between when these races were recorded and when this video goes live, I also picked up Noir Dedede. You do so by acquiring every Air Ride machine in Road Trip, and I got lucky in getting the last two vehicles, the Formula Star and the Tank Star (the latter of which I accidentally passed up going through Mushgloom Route) through Waddle Dee's shop, which randomly had them both. You won't see me playing as Noir Dedede in this video nor the next Kirby Air Riders one though, as Random never picked him. 00:00 - Match #1 Air Ride Course: Cyberion Highway Character: Lololo & Lalala Machine: Vampire Star Is this course named after the Trans-Siberian Highway? (A different structure than the Trans-Siberian Railroad, which the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is named after.) Maybe I’m pronouncing “Cyberion” incorrectly, but it sounds similar to “Siberian.” I’m using the Vampire Star for this one, which has underwhelming stats but can attack enemies and opponents on contact regardless of rider, upon which it gets much better stats briefly, turning the yellow parts red and giving it a red trail. I’m not too great at it, probably because in order to do well, you need a steady stream of targets, and it you’re trailing behind, there probably aren’t too many of them available. 03:21 - Match #2 Air Ride Course: Cavernous Corners Character: Waddle Dee Machine: Warp Star I messed up at the part with the falling boulders though, and I still don’t know how to best maneuver around the area with the geysers near the end. (I also finished with a time of exactly 3 minutes.) Nice to see such a diminutive basic combo of Waddle Dee (now the deuteragonist of the series in merchandising, at least if the Kura Sushi collaboration is any indication) and the Warp Star place ahead of more imposing, complicated pairings though. 06:57 - Match #3 Air Ride Course: Mount Amberfalls Character: Meta Knight Machine: Hop Star So I recently learned that leading up to the jump, there is a path to the left that will bounce you to the upper path, meant for machines like tanks and bikes that cannot make the regular jump on their own. I am kind of reliant on the Steel Ball enemy on the lower path though; you can see that I fell behind when someone passed ahead of me and claimed the Wheeler enemy to extend their lead. 09:17 - Match #4 Air Ride Course: Beanstalk Park Character: Waddle Doo Machine: Wheelie Bike There were at least four participants in this race who spent at least some time in the lead, including myself. Bola rosa, despite spending the entire first lap in 1st or 2nd though, fell to last place by the end. I don’t think I’ve shown Beanstalk Park before, by the way—this is a returning course made of a lot of twisted structures floating in the sky (not unlike a bunch of other original Kirby Air Ride courses, though this one is explicitly sky-themed). It has a lot of paths stacked atop and twirling around each other, and part of the difficulty is staying on top of the upper, faster paths. 11:38 - Match #5 Air Ride Course: Checker Knights Character: Marx Machine: Formula Star The Formula Star has terrible cornering, a bad combination with a stage full of hairpin turns like Checker Knights—but it has insane top speeds if allowed to travel in a straight line. As long as you don’t fall behind too far, it seems that you can make up for lost ground in the final straightaway. Watch how I go from 5th to 2nd in the last few moments of this race. 14:55 - Match #6 Air Ride Course: Crystalline Fissure Character: Kirby Machine: Wagon Star Since the Wagon Star doesn’t have any charge boosts, it can’t do the rocket start that most other machines can do, requiring you to make up the lost ground. I’m also pretty surprised how close this race was between 1st and 5th, but if you look at the results, you’ll see that everyone besides one player has placed 1st in the room (which is what the “star 1” indicator means). They must’ve felt left out, having also placed 11 seconds behind the player in 5th. 18:20 - Match #7 Top Ride Course: Crystal Character: Waddle Dee Machine: Wagon Star In these two races, you’ll see someone using Noir Dedede on the Swerve Star. That machine was banned in some fan-run competitions in the original Kirby Air Ride. I’m not too great at it, but it seems like they are. 19:55 - Match #8 Top Ride Course: Nova Character: Knuckle Joe Machine: Paper Star The Swerve Star has a hard time following star trail slipstreams, but it doesn’t need to: its top speed is so insanely high that it can catch up to and overtake other racers without that assistance. It also means that once they establish a lead, it’s near impossible to shake it without them colossally messing up, which this player is good enough that it’s not happening.
