It was constructed by Austral in Mobile, Alabama and delivered to the Navy on 5 December 2012 It's an aluminium catamaran designed to be fast, flexible and manoeuvrable in shallow waters. The JHSV is intended for rapid transport of military equipment and troops in-theater. Capable of 43 knots (49 mph / 80km/hr) with 35 knots (40 mph) service speed. Has a modular design with a 20,000 ft2 (1,900 m2) bay and is capable of rapid refitting with various equipment to match the required mission.  Dimensions: Length: 338 ft (103 m) Beam: 93 ft (28.5 m) Draft: 12 ft (3.83 m) Space for 41 crew members but, normal compliment is 22. Sleeping accommodation for up to 150 people and an additional 312 seats for troops.
