Karahan Tepe is an amazing Neolithic site, in many ways similar to Göbekli Tepe, but with some features that we don't even see there. This short video captures my tour of the site on November 6. Like Göbekli Tepe, this site is a settlement that was occupied in the later Pre-Pottery Neolithic A (PPNA, ca. 9000 BC) and earlier Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB, about 8000 BC), although precise dating of the various buildings still needs more work. The earlier buildings are round, and the latest ones rectangular in shape. All the animals eaten at the site were wild, and probably they were harvesting wild cereals as well. #karahantepe #gobeklitepe #neolithic #turkey #türkiye #worldneolithicongress #mirazan Chapters 00:06 Introduction 00:40 From Sefer Tepe to Karahan Tepe 01:17 Entering the Site 01:32 Structure AC 01:45 Structure AA 02:12 Structure AB - the "Phallic Building" - An Initiation Chamber or a Cistern? 04:23 Pottery at Karahan Tepe 05:15 Evidence for a cistern? 05:55 Structure AD - The Large Circular Building 08:14 The Slope Above Building AD 09:32 Building with Statue of Seated Man 11:11 Square Building with Stone Slab Bench 11:30 Monumental Building on the South Edge 12:14 Broken "Portal Stones" 12:23 View Across the Valley to the South 12:39 Southeastern Corner of the Excavations 13:00 The Pillars at Karahan Tepe 13:34 Graffito of a Running Onager 13:43 Domestic Buildings at Karahan Tepe 14:07 The "Kitchen Building" East of Structure AD 15:25 A Huge Collection of Stone Vessels 16:09 Animals Eaten at Karahan Tepe 16:34 Leaving Karahan Tepe 16:54 Closing Credits
