A quick trip to Brooklyn Dam, stopping at the Brooklyn Engravings, Dead Horse Bay and Rail/Dam Tunnel (Culvert) . The Brooklyn Dam Trail and Hobo Hill Track form a section of the Great North Walk (GNW) which runs from Sydney to Newcastle or just over 250 km. There are many Aboriginal/Indigenous sites along the walk, this section includes 24 separate engravings on a rock ledge. This section is about 5 km in total round trip and is relatively easy (Aside from the hill climb at the start). Sections are part of the Ku-ring-gai National Park. The Dam was constructed in 1884 for the newly constructed rail line, offering a re-filling point for the steam trains on the Great Northern Railway. The rail arrived in 1877 and required passengers to disembark for a ferry service to Gosford, until the Brooklyn Bridge was opened in 1889. As a side quest I also explore the tunnel running under the railway which allows overflow from the dam to pass along a creek and into the bay. This was a suggestion from the comments on the Mullet Creek/The Tunnel Video posted a few weeks back. #hike #exploresydney #urbex #exploreaustralia #hikingadventures #hikingaustralia #australianhistory #railway #steamtrain #urbexaustralia #rockart #indigenoushistory #sydney #sydneyaustralia #dayhike #indigenousart #centralcoast
