Orange County, Indiana NRCS District Conservationist Lee Schnell performs the water infiltration test at the Orange County SWCD Soil Health Field Day on April 8, 2014 at Ben Lindsey Farms in French Lick, Indiana. The water infiltration test simulates rainwater runoff and infiltration. On a conventionally tilled field, the water runs off completely from the ground becasue it is so compacted and has such poor soil health that water can't infilitrate into the soil. On the long-term no-till field, water completely infiltrates into the soil because good soil health cretaes good soil structure that allows water to move through the soil with ease.
