Today's Definition of the Day is: R. Kelly The meaning of the word R. Kelly has evolved significantly through the decades. In the 1970s, an R. Kelly is a child growing up in the projects of Chicago. He lives without a father in a house full of women; some of whom sexually abuse him. He is a singer in the church choir and his girlfriend drowns while screaming his name after being pushed into a creek by older children. He is also a gunshot victim at age 11. In the 1980s, an R. Kelly is an illiterate high school drop out-- busking on the streets of Chicago. In the 1990s, an R. Kelly is a successful Grammy winning artist, working with the likes of Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Jay-Z and Aliyah-- who he secretly marries while she was underage. He sells a crap load of records and also plays professional basketball on the side. In the 2000s, an R. Kelly is a moderately successful Grammy winning artist who was charged and tried with allegations of child pornography, sexual assault and urinating on an underage girl. He is found not guilty. In the 2010s, an R. Kelly is a formerly successful Grammy winning artist who undergoes throat surgery, makes a bunch more records and is eventually accused of starting a sex cult with multiple underage girls, who may or may not be held against their will, and one of whom he intentionally infects with an STD. In 2019, an R. Kelly is a man in custody of the Chicago PD charges of sexual misconduct with underage girls. As of today, his fate remains undetermined.
