Kalbi ribs is a local island favorite in Hawaii for plate lunches. This dish was introduced by the Koreans and has since been adopted and loved by the locals. It is the perfect summer bbq dish to serve at family gatherings or beach get-togethers. These delicious Korean style short ribs made Hawaiian style, known as Kalbi are marinated 1-2 days in a delicious sweet Korean marinade and grilled to perfection for an amazing sweet tender taste. Best plate Lunch or tailgate food you will ever eat. So enjoy Ingredients: • ½ peeled yellow onion • 1/2 cup large garlic cloves sliced or chopped • 1/2 cup fresh ginger, trimmed or chopped • 2 cup water • 2 cup soy sauce • 2 cup packed light brown sugar or white • 1 tablespoons sesame oil • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds for garnish • 1 cup sliced green onions • ½ teaspoon chili flakes • 4 pounds kalbi cut short ribs 1/2 inch thick Serves 4 Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 10 minutes Marinating Time: 1-2 days Procedures: 1. Add all of the ingredients except for the ribs to a large bowl mix well then pour over ribs to marinate. 2. Transfer the mixture to a plastic zip bag or plastic container and completely submerge the ribs in the marinade. 3. Marinate in the refrigerator for 1-2 days for best results. 4. Add the ribs right from the marinade to a hot grill in between 450° and 550° and cook for 2 to 4 minutes per side or until dark grill marks have formed. 5. Remove from the grill, garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions and serve right away. CHEF NOTES: check out Mac Salad recipe to go with this.
