Praise God! Luke Ch 24: 1-35 He is Risen. “Every so often someone claims to have found evidence of the tomb of Jesus or the bones of Jesus. Each claim is found to be untrue, while the testimony of the angels is proved true over and over again: He is not here.” Guzik The tomb was opened- not because Jesus needed it to be but so that everyone could see the evidence of His resurrection. Imagine going to the tomb, broken hearted but ready to prepare the body of your Savior? I imagine how frustrated the women must have been to have to wait to go and perform these tasks of love. And then to get there to see an open and empty tomb. And then to be reminded of what Jesus taught- that this was what they were TOLD were going to happen. Anyone who tells you that Christianity is misogynist has never opened a Bible and if they HAVE and read it, they have not read it with sincerity, did not have the Holy Spirit, and were deliberately looking for proof text to validate their own poorly constructed opinion. Jesus loved women and held them of high esteem- loved them. And thought the apostles initially did not believe them- Peter and John were triggered by their claims to rush to the tomb and the gospels have eternally proved them correct. What a beautiful thing. It is interesting to note that the men did not yet entirely believe what they were experiencing until later on. The women? Once they remembered- that was all it took. It is also important to note that though Luke does not say- Mark and John tell us that Mary Magdalene was the first person that saw Jesus alive after His resurrection. The Road to Emmaus. I love this story. Just two dudes, walking home after a devastating few days, wondering about the whole horror they had experienced, sad, confused, and also wondering at the stories they had heard before leaving. And then, having a stranger come up and ask about their conversation only to have this stranger speak to your heart in ways that were unique and rare.. Imagine- you would have to wonder- when was the last time my heart stirred so much? When was the last time I poured my soul out to anyone lest a stranger? Imagine being captivated by the wisdom coming from this stranger's mouth, wanting so much more that you insist He stay the evening and rest and eat with them? Imagine that stranger saying yes? We are the two disciples. Confused, light of belief, wondering, sad, a little lost… And Jesus comes to us with wisdom that if we would only open our eyes and ears to see and hear… But sometimes, we don’t recognize Him. “I take it as characteristic of the Lord that in the glory of His resurrection life He gave Himself with such fullness of disclosure to these unknown and undistinguished men…. He still reveals Himself to lowly hearts. Here is the Saviour for the common man. Here is the Lord who does not spurn the humble.” (Morrison) The Disciples’ Eyes Opened. Imagine you are at the dinner table and breaking bread when the stranger suddenly says something or does something in just a certain way, in the perfect light, and suddenly the doors of clarity swing open. And suddenly, you realize that all that was spoken of by the women and Peter was true and THEY saw the proof that He was alive! That Jesus was exactly who He said He was…. Those men, those random dudes, picked up their gear and immediately went BACK 7 miles, in the night, to Jerusalem to spread that good news back to the original 11. Imagine. WHen I read the gospel, when I read Jesus' words, all I want to do is talk about HIm. It is worth the danger of the night to share the Truth and Wonder that is our Savior. “It is a very strong word that, ‘they constrained him’; it is akin to the one which Jesus used when he said, ‘The kingdom of heaven suffereth violence.’ They not only invited him, but they held him, they grasped his hand, they tugged at his skirts, they said he should not go.” (Spurgeon) Even when they didn’t know it was Jesus, even when they didn’t believe He was risen from the dead, their heart still burned because of the ministry of God’s Word and of Jesus, the Living Word of God.- Guzik #biblereading #dailybibleverse #gospelofluke There has never been a better time to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Join me in reading the Bible every day. I started with the Gospel according to Matthew, then Mark, and I am now on Luke! I am reading from the NKJV but feel free to use what you have.
