As Glasgow prepares to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014 much of the citys poorest areas are being regenerated after 30 years of industrial decline, poor housing and poverty. The Regeneration of the Oatlands district is Scotlands second largest single community regeneration scheme. Work on the 32.2 hectare site started in 2005 and the eventual development value is estimated at £212,000,000. Most people were rehoused into new properties in 1998 2000 and the old flats were then boarded up, fenced off and lay derelict, until they started demolishing them last year.
