You'll also learn the importance of active listening and how to improve social interactions with colleagues while working remotely. Think about some of your current relationships. What are some of the characteristics you regularly exhibit that helped you build and maintain those connections? Relationships are built on things like self-awareness, mutual respect, trust, and effective communication. If someone asks you to describe yourself in one to three words, what would those words be? Your character traits determine who you are and no matter your title and role, those traits are always on display. Your characteristics typically assist you with choosing the people you connect with. We generally connect with people we have something in common with. It's also good to have a healthy view of yourself that honestly reflects your likes, dislikes, flaws, triggers, strengths, and needs. A healthy view of yourself is the real you. Ask yourself the following questions. Do you know your worth or value? Do you see the worth and value of others? Do you discount yourself to connect with others? Do you discount others to increase your own worth or value? The answers to these questions can help determine if you need to develop self-respect. To have healthy relationships with others, it's good to have a healthy relationship with yourself first by continually demonstrating self-awareness. If the concept of self-awareness is new to you, here are some ways to begin. Set aside some time each day, avoid digital distractions, and focus on yourself. This can be meditation or just a simple exercise of taking stock of the current situation. Take a walk and tune into your thoughts and surroundings. Start a journal by jotting down your thoughts and how you feel about them. Ask someone who knows you well to provide their feedback on how you come across to others. Ask for feedback from coworkers or managers. This may be a formal review process the company already has in place.
