Bruges Belgium Walking Tour – Autumn Ambience in 4K | Subtitles | 500ml Travel

This is the third instalment of my "Bruges Through the Seasons" walking tour series. In this autumn edition, Bruges is wrapped in golden light and fallen leaves, giving its canals and cobbled streets a softer, quieter atmosphere. The tour begins at the Minnewater Bridge, overlooking the tranquil Lake of Love (Minnewater) which was potentially named after the tragic legend of Minna and her warrior love. According to local legend, Minna was a young woman from Bruges who fell in love with Stromberg, a warrior from a neighbouring tribe. Her father, however, had promised her to another man. When Stromberg went off to war, Minna ran away to avoid the arranged marriage. Heartbroken and exhausted, she hid near the lake, waiting for Stromberg’s return, but he found her only after she had died of sorrow. It’s said that Stromberg built a dam over the river to create a calm resting place for her spirit, forming what is now known as the Minnewater. Local tradition says that lovers who cross the Minnewater Bridge will share eternal love, in memory of Minna and Stromberg’s devotion. It then passes the Poertoren (Gunpowder Tower) and Minnewater Castle before crossing by Het Sashuis, one of the most picturesque corners of the city. From there, the walk continues into the peaceful Beguinage (Begijnhof), with its whitewashed houses and tree-lined courtyard, a serene contrast to the bustling centre. The route then follows Wijngaardplein and Walplein, two charming squares surrounded by traditional cafés and historic façades, before winding through Stoofstraat, one of Bruges' narrowest medieval lanes. The tour continues past the Church of Our Lady, whose spire dominates the skyline, and onwards to Saint Salvator's Cathedral, Simon Stevin Square, and finally De Stadshallen and the Belfort, Bruges' most iconic landmark. It can be very busy however, as Bruges is a very popular tourist destination! The shoulder months such as October can be less busy, but the weather can be quite glum and rainy. I love Bruges most on sunny autumn days however! 🌎 How to get there: Bruges is one of Belgium’s most accessible destinations. You can travel to Bruges by train from Brussels in about 1 hour or from Ghent in just 30 minutes. From Bruges railway station, it’s an easy 15–20 minute walk to the historic city center, or you can take a short bus or taxi ride to Markt Square or Burg Square. 🛌 Where to stay: For the best Bruges travel experience, book accommodation in the historic old town, where you can walk to top attractions like the Belfry of Bruges, the Beguinage, and Minnewater Lake. Stay in a boutique hotel in a medieval building, a charming B&B with canal views, or a luxury hotel near the main squares.
