Industrial Odor Control has helped Gross-Wen Technologies and the town of Slater, Iowa overcome an anticipated odor control problem at their wastewater processing facility. Gross-Wen has developed a method utilizing algae to extract nitrogen and phosphorous from wastewater. Gross-Wen's system utilizes their patented Revolving Algae Biofilm (RAB) system. In this vertical conveyor-belt system, the belt is dipped in and out of the water to allow the algae to adhere and grow. The algae is harvested approximately two times per week. The next part of their process involves drying the algae and processing it into pellets that can then be used as fertilizer and other uses. Not only does their process remove nitrogen and phosphorous, it leaves Slater, IA with a valuable byproduct to help cover the costs of some of their wastewater processing. Gross-Wen anticipated the need for odor control. The dewatering and drying of the algae is an odorous problem. Gross-Wen Technologies knew they had to plan an odor control solution in place sooner rather than later. After multiple conversations and planning sessions with Industrial Odor Control, a solution was devised to provide an easily adaptable and scalable activated carbon odor control system that would resolve the problem.
