It was a defining moment in the history of British coal mining. On 18 June 1984, ITN's cameras recorded one of the most shocking confrontations in the history of British industrial relations, when striking miners clashed with police at the Orgreave Coking Works in Orgreave, South Yorkshire. Widely regarded as one of the most well-documented instances of police brutality in recent decades, the events at Orgreave represented a turning point in British industrial relations, with pictures of the day becoming defining images of the Margaret Thatcher era. 5000 pickets of the National Union of Mineworkers led by NUM president Arthur Scargill clashed with South Yorkshire Police officers supported by contingents of police forces from across England, including London Metropolitan Police. Featuring raw footage of the day's events as well as interviews with SYP Assistant Chief Constable Anthony Clement as well as an injured Arthur Scargill, this archive documentary tells the story of a day pivotal event in British political history. #Orgreave #BattleOfOrgreave #MinersStrike #1984 #TradeUnion #MargaretThatcher #Thatcher #Strike #UKPolitics #Politics To license the footage featured in this clip, follow the link below: _______ To search the ITN Archive collection on Getty Images, follow the link below: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/footage... 🎥 Subscribe to our YouTube channel (tap the bell icon and stay up to date with all the latest ITN Archive videos!) - / @itnarchive 🎥 Follow us on Twitter - / itnarchive 🎥 Like us on Facebook - / itnarchiveitnp 🎥 Check out our TikTok - / itnarchive1955
