South African Steam: GF 2401 to Magaliesburg 20 Feb 1994

This trip was an RSSA day trip; the plan was to run the GF with a mixed train from Millsite to Magaliesburg, then up along the branch to Hekpoort and return, to Magaliesburg, then back to Millsite. To save time shunting at Magaliesburg, the feeder tank wasn't reversed, and was propelled by the Garratt towards Hekpoort. It all came unstuck on a dirt road crossing near Elberta, where the feeder tank was derailed by dirt over the crossing... It took several hours for the breakdown crew to arrive and re-rail the feeder tank (it was a Sunday!) so after a quick runpast at Elberta we headed back to Magaliesburg, and then Millsite in a fully-fledged Highveld thunderstorm! A good day nonetheless. The first SA fan trip I went on. Hadn't graduated to tripod use then, so the camera work is a bit lacking!
