He is also a professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Toronto and a bestselling author of three books: Maps of Meaning, 12 Rules for Life, and Beyond Order. Peterson was born and raised in Alberta, where he obtained bachelor’s degrees in political science and psychology from the University of Alberta. He then pursued a PhD in clinical psychology from McGill University, where he studied under Robert O. Pihl. He also taught and researched at Harvard University before returning to Canada in 1998. Peterson’s first book, Maps of Meaning, was published in 1999 and presents a new theory of religious and political belief based on psychology, mythology, religion, literature, philosophy and neuroscience. He has also delivered many lectures on this topic online and in person. His second book, 12 Rules for Life, was published in 2018 and offers practical advice on how to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. His third book, Beyond Order, was published in 2021 and provides 12 more rules for coping with chaos and uncertainty. Peterson has also created online programs such as selfauthoring.com and understandmyself.com that help people explore their personalities, pasts, and futures. He has also been involved in various projects such as consulting for businesses and governments, advising entrepreneurs, hosting podcasts, and leading seminars on biblical stories. Peterson is also a prolific researcher who has published over 100 scientific papers with his students and co-authors on topics such as personality, creativity, intelligence, alcoholism, aggression, motivation, neuropsychology, and social psychology. His work has been cited over 19,000 times according to Google Scholar. Peterson is married to Tammy Roberts and has two children.
