In today's video I'll be going over a great way to play your Atari 5200 (1 & 2 button compatibility) with an Atari 2600-compatible Hyperkin Ranger with added-on Switch Joy-Con via a 5200 adapter, a splitter cable, and an 8bitdo Sega Genesis Retro Receiver. I'll also be showing how to get the two stick Atari 5200 games, Robotron 2084 and Space Dungeon, working with 2 Switch Joy-Cons simultaneously. Products shown in this presentation can easily be obtained from the following sources: Ikonsgr74 9 pin to Atari 5200 controller adapter: https://ebay.us/s25k5q Hyperkin Ranger: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08227NQ3Z/... 8bitdo Sega Genesis Retro Receiver: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P9Q2LWS/... 9 pin splitter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KVF4CNR/... Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078GZM4H8/... Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Grip: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086YZYZPC/... In the presentation, I feature two unique 90 degree positional changing adapters that can easily be made from a cord and solderless connectors (easily found on Ebay by typing in some search words, including db9 9 pin solderless plug). The pinout diagram is available to all of you for the purpose of printing it out, so here you go: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e46T... I mentioned that this method of adapting will exclusively work with one Atari 2600 controller- The Hyperkin Ranger- and not any other 2600 joysticks. Well, I have since found out that this is true when using the Kinvoca third party Switch Joy-con, but untrue when it comes to 1st party Nintendo Joy-cons. Using the 1st party Joy-cons, instead of a Kinvoca Joy-con, can bring compatibility to using any and all 2600 joysticks with the method shown in today's episode. Be sure to watch Wired-Up Retro #59 for more on this. The 8bitdo Sega Genesis Retro Receiver can be altered to allow it to work on the Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 on its own without special adapters (as briefly mentioned within today's video). This is RevEng's mod, and it's a quick and easy soldering of a small wire within the Retro Receiver: https://atariage.com/forums/topic/307... This modded 8bitdo Retro Receiver can still be used on the 5200 with the Ikonsgr 9 pin to Atari 5200 adapter. Doing the RevEng mod does not detrimentally affect its performance on the Atari 5200 applications highlighted in today's video.
