Melissa Wing: Dieppe Through the Eyes of Canadian War Correspondents

Melissa’s research into Canadian war correspondents showcases the unique ways Canadians experienced the Second World War. In her talk, Melissa will take us to the shores of Dieppe to discuss how the infamous Dieppe Raid was covered by Canadian correspondents, the challenges they faced, and the legacy that was left behind by their reporting. Melissa is a Canadian Historian based in Victoria, British Columbia. She has a Bachelor of Arts with an Honours in History from the University of the Fraser Valley and a Master of Arts in History from the University of Victoria. Her research examines war correspondents and media coverage during the First and Second World Wars. She is also working on expanding her graduate research to complete a book on the Salvation Army Doughnut Girls during the First World War. In addition to her academic work, Melissa is a contract historical researcher, and the Assistant Archivist at the Sidney Museum & Archives on Vancouver Island. Outside her work she is also an executive board member of the Friends of the British Columbia Archives. In her talk, Melissa referenced a number of books.
